Jerry Lee Lewis Remembrance Day at Union Museum
Union Museum of History and Art will be hosting Jerry Lee Lewis Remembrance Day on Saturday, March 18, 1:00 - 3:00 pm, located at 211 North Main St, Farmerville LA.
Many people don't know that Jerry Lee Lewis attended Linville School during the 1952 school year. Jerry Lee moved to Sterlington from Ferriday, started at Linville School in the 9th grade. Jerry Lee brought a new sound that none of the students and everyone across the country had ever heard.
The girls in school loved Jerry Lee and the boys hated him for distracting all the girls. The principle, Mr. Alton Hollis, locked the gymnasium to prevent Jerry Lee from "knocking the ivory off the piano keys" as one girl said.
There are many stories to be shared of Jerry Lee Lewis. Rev. Gerald Lewis (cousin of Jerry Lee) will perform gospel songs. There will be a jam session by area musicians playing Jerry Lee's favorite songs. Plus special guest, Jerry Lee's widow, Judith Lewis, will be in attendance.
